When my wife went to the bathroom she was greeted with a sarcastic "Hi, soccer Mom" from another customer, but they got talking, became friends and ended up taking selfies. The whole team work so hard and put on a good show. The bartenders seemed to give all change in dollar bills, which makes it easy to return a lot of it as tips for them and the girls. The drinks are cheap (especially before happy hour ends!) and served quickly with a smile. The crowd are up for it too, with a bit of a dance floor forming in front of the stage area (before it turns into a proper club at 11pm). They were all fabulous, great fun, looked amazing and were brilliantly entertaining.
The DJ does a great job of moving things along - not playing the whole of every song and the girls come down off stage and interact with the audience a bit, fishing for tips. One of them was acting as the compere, taking requests from the audience and giving some chat. This was about 9pm on a Friday night and there were three drag acts taking it in turns to lip sync to a wide variety of songs. We were quite smartly dressed, having come from a nice dinner but the crowd here is the most eclectic and inclusive of anywhere I've been. We're an open minded, straight, married couple in our mid-forties.
It did - more than we expected!Īs soon as we arrived we could tell the atmosphere was welcoming and inclusive. I read about Boots and Saddle in a 101 cool things to do in New York book and thought it would make a fun stop on our last night in town.
